This music was born out of a summer and ended with a short tour where we presented it to unsuspecting audiences around the North Island. It was written in the later months of 2022 when I was languishing in Wellington and the music reflects both the whimsical nature of summer and the dark feelings, listlessness, and ennui that sometimes accompany it. I was joined on the tour by Umar Zakaria (bass) and Abe Baillie (drums), two astounding players who I was lucky to have with me. The tour was a mess of careful packing and couch surfing and they endured it well, and I for one have fond memories of it all. I am pleased to be presenting a candid recording of one of the gigs, in partnership with Thelonious Records
